In a meeting, the Agency highlighted the interest in securing new routes to increase connectivity

Strengthening and expanding the Brazilian air network with new international flights and routes was the focus of the meeting between Embratur, representatives of the São Paulo International Airport (GRU Airport) and the European low-cost airline, Virgin Atlantic, held this Tuesday (8/16 ) . The meeting, which was held by videoconference, had as its central theme the company's interest in investing in Brazil.

The idea of expanding the international air network is treated as a priority by the Agency. During the meeting, Silvio Nascimento explained the importance of securing new flights and routes to the country. "Undoubtedly, the attraction of foreign tourists is directly related to the overheating of the aviation sector and, for this reason, Embratur has established permanent contact with airlines from different countries," he pointed out.

Just to mention some recent actions, this month, in a meeting between the institution, the Ministry of Tourism and JetSmart, the airline announced the expansion of flights in Brazil, connecting cities in the country with cities in Chile and Argentina. At Fiexpo América Latina, held in Panama, Embratur participated in a meeting with Copa Airlines and, after the meeting, the airline confirmed the increase in the number of flights, with new routes to Porto Alegre, Manaus, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo until the end of 2022.

Another point raised by Embratur was the growth in the flow of international tourists in Brazil, a factor that encourages the inclusion of new flights this year. The country received, only in the first six months of 2022, one million 222 thousand 536 foreigners with a tourist visa, a figure higher than the entire year 2021 (596 thousand 745) and about 660% more if compared to the same period of 2021.

The meeting was also attended by Embratur, the director of Marketing, Intelligence and Communication, Karisa Nogueira; the manager of Advertising, Propaganda and Digital Marketing, André Reis; the advisor to the Presidency, Rafael Luisi; and the supervisor of Management of Units Abroad and Administrative Processes, Daniela Reple.

robust growth

According to the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), Brazil's international air network continued to resume in July 2022, operating again above 70% of the figures reached in 2019. The 3,751 flights registered in the last month are equivalent to 72, 33% of capacity in July 2019 and they already exceed the entire year 2020, when 22,353 flights arrived in the country. Also according to an Embratur survey with Anac and airlines, 89 new flights and 44 additional frequencies are planned for February of next year.
