Melia promotes its offer for the MICE segment at IBTM Americas
The Spanish hotel chain presented important novelties at the event held in Mexico City
Meliá Hotels International was present at IBTM Americas, an event that took place between August 24 and 25 in the Mexican capital. To find out more details, we have interviewed Angel Velásquez, Regional Sales Director. We share his responses below:
What does it mean for you to have participated in IBTM Americas?
It has been a great opportunity to meet again with our customers, partners, suppliers and industry partners.
We are really very excited about today having that human interaction that we needed. And we have come with important news such as an important renovation of Paradisus Palma Real in Punta Cana, a true jewel of the chain. There we have 13 event rooms with capacity for 1,400 people and others where we are putting more focus. They will now have the latest technology available to hold world class events.
It is a property that has approximately 600 rooms that are being updated. We have also expanded the gastronomic offer.
Another important novelty is the new theme park in partnership with Falcon's Beyond that is directly across the street from our properties and is open to the public. There we have a new Falcon's Resorts by Meliá complex. It is part of the investment of 350 million in the creation of a destination in which hospitality is combined with leisure and entertainment.
Falcon's Resort by Meliá - All Suites Punta Cana will be built from the transformation of two of the Meliá Hotels International hotels in the destination, the Paradisus Gran Cana and The Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real, which have a total of 622 rooms. The first phase is expected to be completed by the end of the year, turning the current Paradisus Gran Cana into an all-inclusive resort that will offer new experiences and facilities, as well as a unique interactive platform that will be announced soon. The second phase, which will transform The Reserve into Paradisus Palma Real, is expected in 2023.
In Punta Cana, Katmandu Park will feature state-of-the-art entertainment-oriented technologies, interactive storytelling and innovative first-rate attractions. Falcon's Central will offer entertainment, experiences, services, restaurants, shops and entertainment, collaborating with leading international brands.
Meliá Hotels International and Falcon's have already announced upcoming Falcon's Beyond Destination locations around the world that will be developed in the coming years. Among the destinations in which both companies will collaborate, uniting hotels and leisure, are Tenerife, whose opening is scheduled for 2024, and Playa del Carmen (Mexico) whose opening is scheduled for 2025.
What is the current status of the MeliáPro programme?
We are really happy with the results we have been having. The objective of the program is for members to increase the number of reservations made at our hotels and to improve communication with travel agents so that they have a better understanding of our hotels, thus facilitating their commercial work.
It is a commitment on the part of the company that has given very good results, the affiliated travel agencies also earn points for their sales, it is a tool that has allowed us to go one step further than our direct channel and at the same time time also offer more diversification.
How is the year going for you in terms of promotion?
We are going to participate in IMEX America and in the IBTM in Barcelona. As is known, these are events that we are resuming after the stoppage due to the pandemic. We continue to advance and add international promotion that allows us to have relationships with the most important clients for us.
