The Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco Marqués highlighted the actions undertaken to strengthen tourism activity in all corners of the country, so that more than 92.5% of international tourists are not concentrated in just six destinations

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that tourism is a noble and dynamic activity, and in this sense, the task of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is to promote this sector as an instrument of integration. that reconciles economic growth with social growth, generating well-being conditions for the inhabitants of tourist centers.

When inaugurating the 37th edition of ABASTUR, at the Citibanamex Center, in Mexico City, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), stressed that for this reason, a series of actions are carried out to strengthen tourism activity in all corners of the country, so that no more than 92.5% of international tourists are concentrated in just six tourist places.

Accompanied by the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City, Nathalie Desplas Puel, and business leaders from the sector, he indicated that one of these actions is the creation of integrated "anchor products", in order to expand and diversify the offer, as well as how to promote the configuration of attractive circuits.

"It is important to note that in this work we work hand in hand with the private sector, as well as state and municipal authorities, with the sole purpose of responding to the tastes and expectations of an increasingly demanding and informed tourist," he declared.

Torruco Marqués specified that in this sense there is the Mexican Hotel Museum, in the Magical Town of Orizaba, Veracruz; the Armando Manzanero Museum in Mérida, Yucatán; the GNP Seguros Arena, scene of the Mexican Tennis Open, in Acapulco, Guerrero; the Chinesca, in Mexicali, Baja California; the Alley of the Beatles, in Mazatlán, Sinaloa; among others; and he highlighted the comprehensive project Islas Marías.

“Another aspect to point out is the strengthening of tourism in alternative places to the large tourist centers, thus diversifying the destinations to visit; as are the 132 Magical Towns that seek to make visible the natural, historical, cultural, architectural and gastronomic wonders that small towns in the country have, ”he said.

To learn about the benefits of this program, the Secretary of Tourism extended the invitation to participate in the Tianguis de Pueblos Mágicos, which will take place in the city of Oaxaca, from October 12 to 14 of this year; as well as the International Tianguis de Pueblos Mágicos, which will take place in 2023, in Los Angeles, California; after the success of the first edition in Barcelona, ​​Spain; with the face-to-face participation of 72 Magical Towns and 75 tour operators from 16 countries.

He also highlighted the 47th edition of the Tianguis Turístico México, the most important fair in the sector in Latin America, which will be held for the first time in Mexico City, and will take place from March 26 to 29, 2023.

“The Citibanamex Center, where we meet today, will be the ideal setting for this Tourist Tianguis, in which we expect the attendance of 15 thousand people, the participation of 100 nations, around three thousand buyers and the conclusion of 80 thousand business appointments. , as well as an occupation of 40,000 hotel rooms per night and an economic benefit of 1,740 million pesos”, he pointed out.

The head of Sectur pointed out that as part of the strategy for the diversification of markets, work tours have been undertaken to the main countries that send tourists to Mexico. Among the cities that have already been visited are Washington, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, in the United States, and Vancouver, in Canada; and next month it will be Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa, also in Canada.

He added that it is planned to participate with a pavilion in various tourism fairs, such as Top Resa, in Paris, France, from September 20 to 23; the International Tourism Fair, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from October 1 to 4; IMEX, in Las Vegas, United States, from October 11 to 13; and World Travel Market, in London, England, from November 7 to 9.

“In this promotional effort, we also spread the image of Mexico in the countries that make up the 'Mundo Maya' region: Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. Together with these sister nations, we hold business roundtables to promote the commercialization of the product from this area at a continental level, and it will participate as a multi-destination product in the 47th edition of the Tianguis Turístico”, he commented.

Torruco Marqués emphasized that Sectur works on these and other initiatives that favor the recovery of tourism in Mexico, which today is on the rise, since in the current year 2022, the arrival in Mexico of 42 million 301 thousand tourists is estimated. international, only 6% below 2019, and a historical economic spill of 26 thousand 121 million dollars, exceeding by 6.3% what was registered in 2019.

He reiterated that this shows that the policies implemented by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador during the pandemic were correct, by not restricting international flights, implementing the biosanitary protocols developed between the Ministry of Health and Sectur, in coordination with the private sector, and the vaccination strategy.

“On this route, throughout 37 editions, Abastur has shown signs of always being at the forefront of products and services for our sector, and I am convinced that it will continue along the same route, contributing to the consolidation of Mexico as a power destination. tourism”, affirmed Torruco Marqués.

For her part, the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City, Nathalie Desplas Puel, highlighted the recovery that the sector has shown in the capital, not only in the arrival of tourists, but also in average spending. She highlighted the importance of working to meet the needs of a new, more demanding tourist.

On his occasion, David Babani Morales, president of the Mexican Association of Tourism Suppliers (AMAIT), explained that the 37th edition of ABASTUR takes place from August 31 to September 2, days in which the latest trends will be presented, technologies and innovations for the hotel, restaurant, cafeteria and catering industry; with the participation of 400 exhibitors and more than 10 thousand buyers.

Also present at the inauguration were the president of the Organizing Committee of ABASTUR, Adrián López Ruiz; the president of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (CANIRAC), Germán González Bernal; the president of the Hotel Association of Mexico City, Rafael García González; on behalf of the National Restaurant Association, Bryan Casey; and the director of the Hospitality Portfolio at Informa Markets Mexico; Yesenia Vázquez Monroy.
