The event celebrated its tenth edition, gathering in Los Cabos 81 buyers and 76 exhibitors who held 2,584 business appointments

It has been 10 years since this initiative was born, which today reaps tangible achievements. In 2012, the first World Meetings Forum was held in the Riviera Maya, with a very clear objective that is confirmed in each edition: to be one of the most vigorous business platforms that brings together the main buyers and sellers of the meetings industry.

“We have a strong commitment to the meetings industry for all that it contributes to the national economy, and that is why it is necessary to create spaces for analysis, debate, and sharing of experiences. From its conception, the objective was very clear: to be one of the most vigorous business platforms that brings together the main buyers and sellers of the meetings industry”, said Rafael Hernández, chairman of the World Meetings Forum.

He added that this edition had 81 hosted buyers, 76 exhibitors and 2,584 business appointments, once again bringing together buyers and suppliers, as well as prominent international speakers, who analyzed the global trends that will define meeting tourism in the coming years. .

The discussions held by the presidents of IAPCO, ICCA and MPI called "The Next Steps on Our Path for Recovery", as well as the one held by the representatives of CNET, COMIR and PCO "El Path of Tourism and Meetings Recovery” (The Path or Tourism and Meetings Recovery) stood out among the audience, because they served as an analysis platform for the industry.
These talks concluded that the meetings industry was forced to reconfigure the way it did things, adapting and implementing new technologies to its strategy, adding tools such as webinars that have served to support and give added value to events. that are carried out; however, it was emphasized that these technologies do not come to replace direct meetings, on the contrary, both parties (the technological and the traditional) have benefited from this reconstruction process, something that the organizers of the World Meeting Forum they have quite clear and that was demonstrated throughout the event.

Other experts who met in Los Cabos were the Ministers of Tourism of Costa Rica and Panama, together with the General Director of the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (Inguat), who spoke about the importance of working together to establish public policies around sustainability, in order to have a benchmark of the impact that the industry has at an environmental level, as well as encourage reflection on how to improve it and contribute to change.

For his part, the CEO of Grupo Posadas, José Carlos Azcarraga, offered an exciting Key Note Session called "Vision of growth in challenging times for tourism", in which he shared with the audience some of the decisions that had to be made during the most sensitive season of the pandemic, highlighting that for them the main thing at that time was to take care of the health of their collaborators, their families, guests and all those who were in contact with their company, in addition to giving rise to work in their commitment to society and their country through actions of real impact, such as offering free accommodation to medical personnel and opening its doors to safeguard the integrity of women victims of domestic violence through a collaboration with the Spotlight Initiative of the European Union and the United Nations.

As part of the celebrations for 10 years of work, WMF carried out various activities throughout the three days of the meeting, highlighting a golf tournament, a race with a cause and a gala dinner for its guests, in which they were invited to attendees to join the causes promoted by the World Meetings Forum Foundation, highlighting its initiative for the labor inclusion of people with disabilities in the meetings industry. Likewise, an auction was held, from which all proceeds will serve to continue supporting the various causes for which they work.

Closing with a flourish and with the intention of breaking paradigms, WMF had Amelia Rose Earhart, an American pilot, as a guest, who in an inspirational conference spoke to the public about how "turbulence" can become a life challenge to overcome. , creating a story of her own life full of successes, giving as an example her own anecdote of how she managed to become the youngest woman to fly around the world.

It should be noted that this year the World Meetings Forum has held other high-level meetings in Tampico, Monterrey, Puebla, San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City, within the national territory; Prague and the Dominican Republic, outside the Mexican border. It also plans two more events in Costa Rica and the Mexican Caribbean, so the World Meetings Forum will close its tenth anniversary year with ten events.
