Strong reactivation of the MICE segment in Peru
During the second semester, the Andean country will host more than 20 international congresses and events
The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) announced that the country continues to strengthen its role as host of important international congresses and events, which allows it to continue consolidating itself as an ideal and specialized destination for meeting tourism, a segment that represents a necessary engine of the economy.
"In this second semester of this 2022, Peru will be receiving more than 20 international events in Lima, Cusco and Arequipa, which means a direct economic impact for the country of about S / 32 million," said Amora Carbajal, executive president of PROMPERU.
Carbajal Schumacher added that, "in the framework of the reactivation, at PROMPERÚ we are committed to promoting the country's position as an essential destination for meeting tourism through an institutional strategy for attracting and promoting international events."
Among the main scheduled events, the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) stands out, a meeting in which nearly 500 delegates from the participating countries will be present and which will be held in Lima from October 5 to 7.
From October 12 to 16, Lima will host the Sapphire Retreat – Jeunesse Expo Disrupt 2022, a convention for a leading cosmetics company, which will bring together 3,000 participants from around the world.
In addition, in Cusco, from October 27 to 30, the South American Bird Fair will be held with the participation of 300 people. It is important to point out that Peru is one of the main destinations for bird watching in the world. Even in May, our country ranked second in the Global Big Day 2022.
On the other hand, from October 29 to 31, the capital will host the 47th World Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress, a specialized veterinary meeting with a global impact that will bring together 3,000 international participants.
Between October 26 and 28, the VI International Congress on Media Competencies will be held in Arequipa. On the other hand, from November 16 to 19, the XV Latin American Beekeeping Congress will take place in Cusco.
Likewise, during this second semester, important sporting events are being held in Peru such as the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships (from August 30 to September 4), the XIII CAT Shooting Championship (from November 4 to 14), the Punta Rocas Open Pro surfing (from November 15 to 20) and the Caminos del Inca Rally (from October 22 to November 1), events that host more than 4 thousand participants between athletes and spectators.
It should be noted that these are the results of a strategy that integrates joint work with the private sector that is focused on positioning Peru as a destination for meetings and events, and attracting meetings of different types such as associative, corporate, sports and business trips. incentives.
