The island promoted its charms and multiple facets at an event that took place in Miami

On Thursday, September 1, representatives from Tenerife, the largest of the Spanish Canary Islands, held a private event for travel and media professionals at the iconic Peacock Garden in Coconut Grove.

The presentation, which had an exciting attendance, was the latest in a series of actions carried out in New York, Chicago and Miami to highlight the potential of Tenerife as an attraction for the North American traveler. This time around, it was about connecting the destination, its hoteliers and DMCs with a prolific population of Miami-based wholesalers and travel agents.

“Miami and Tenerife are connected by its shared Hispanic link. Many Cubans living in Miami since the 1960’s can trace heritage back to the Canary Islands and more specifically to Tenerife. This makes Miami an important sister city for our Spanish Island, and we are appreciative for the warm and enthusiastic reception we have received,” says David Perez, CEO of Turismo de Tenerife.

“Ours is an island of much biodiversity, adventure, luxurious hotels and perfect weather year-round. We are excited to welcome U.S. travelers to awaken their emotions in Tenerife.”

According to data provided by the official, between January and July 2022, the Spanish town has received more than 15,000 North American tourists, which indicates a 45 percent growth compared to the same period in 2019.

In fact, throughout 2019 there was a total influx of around 17 thousand tourists from the United States. The promoters of the island are optimistic about this year's numbers and hope to far exceed those of the pre-pandemic period.
