The World Travel and Tourism Council will address environmental issues on September 21 in New York

The meeting, which will be called "Nature Positive Approach to Net-Zero - Travel & Tourism" aims to call on both governments and the travel and tourism industry to help stop the deterioration of the planet, prevent the loss of biodiversity and carry out actions against climate change.

The event will take place during climate week in New York and will be led by Julia Simpson, President and CEO of WTTC, in addition to the presence of former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

For Simpson, the travel and tourism sector must take "urgent" action to control the loss of biodiversity and reduce the impact on the planet. "This requires coordination between the public and private sectors, to generate initiatives based on sustainable tourism," she emphasized.

In this regard, he stressed that the sector has a key role to play in generating, promoting and acting in favor of nature and biodiversity: "We are in a unique position for companies and visitors to act as guardians of our beautiful planet. Travelers They're not just about leaving a lighter footprint, they want to have a net positive effect when they visit a destination."

Ultimately, it is about the industry playing a role by leading by example and taking an approach that is positive in nature.

Last year, WTTC announced the launch of its Net Zero roadmap for the travel and tourism sector, to support the industry in the fight against climate change, as well as innovative social and environmental research data as part of its Report. Annual Economic Impact Assessment (EIR).
