Bariloche consolidates as a regional destination
The city has good post-pandemic recovery numbers, something that it attributes to continuous work and the enormous versatility of its tourist offer
The Rio Negro town of Bariloche was present at the FIT to show a wide proposal that includes preferences, budgets, events and activities. Cataloged as one of the preferential destinations at the national level, the Patagonian city is also strong in regional tourism and celebrates the influx of tourists from countries such as Brazil and Chile. We spoke with Mariana Cadra, representative of the EMPROTUR Joint Tourism Promotion Entity, and she told us this:
A few months after closing a year marked by reopenings and recoveries, how did Bariloche experience the exit from the pandemic?
The truth is that the pandemic period was very hard. Bariloche is a destination that practically lives off tourism, but luckily the recovery was very fast, it was quite surprising, and it is something that is still going on, hotel occupancy levels are quite the same as last summer, when we were at 98 %; this winter it was at 90 percent and it is estimated that something similar will happen this summer, with very good hotel occupancy and tourist arrivals, so we can say that it was a very strong recovery that we hope will continue to be maintained.
What markets were decisive in the recovery of the destination?
During the restrictions, mainly the national market was what was most present in the destination, and now with the release of the requirements and the opening of borders, regional markets such as Brazil and Chile become stronger. Uruguayan and long-distance tourism is also slowly refloating. Our strength is regional tourism and this is reflected in the fact that during the winter we had a large flow of Brazilian tourists and now there is a large Chilean public in Bariloche.
What news can you tell us about Bariloche in terms of tourism and events?
Now we are focusing hard on the summer proposal, since there is very little left for the season to arrive. Our offer is very wide, it adapts to all kinds of budgets, tastes and activities and we focus on that premise. Bariloche is not only a leisure destination but we can also say that it is a candidate to host Expo 2027 and that next year it will host the FAEVYT 2023 congress.
And what about next year?
The numbers indicate that this will continue to grow, that Bariloche is a destination that is first in trend. The figures show that it is one of the most sought after destinations at a national and regional level; and it is something that is reflected in airlines, hotels and the nation itself. Internationally, it is also a destination with which the country is associated and that makes us very proud. We hope that all this continues over time, not only in the summer and winter seasons but for the rest of the year.
If you had to summarize the tourist offer of Bariloche, what would you say?
Bariloche is a very wide and versatile destination. There are options for everyone in summer and winter, for those with a tighter budget, for luxury tourism, for those who want to relax, for those seeking adventure and adrenaline... it is a destination that adapts to all types of tastes and budgets, which stands out for its versatility throughout the year.
