The construction of an exclusive cruise ship pier is being promoted in Valparaíso
The initiative arose from a meeting that was attended by deputies and senators from the region
A private public alliance was made in order to promote the construction of an exclusive cruise ship dock in Valparaíso, which authorities said would boost the region's economy.
The initiative came out of a meeting that was attended by deputies and senators from the region, headed by Senator Francisco Chahuán, Mayor Jorge Sharp and representatives of the tourism, hotel and trade unions of Valparaíso.
The measure arises from the decision taken by the Puerto Valparaíso Company (EPV) to withdraw from the creation of the Exclusive Cruise Ship Pier.
Senator Francisco Chahuán mentioned that this is not a competition with San Antonio, pointing out that they intend to boost cruise tourism, and that they will cite EPV to publicize the report where they would indicate that this project would not be profitable.
"We are going to quote the Port Company of Valparaíso for the purposes of the report and what were the elements to say that this project was not profitable," he said.
Along the same lines, the mayor of Valparaíso, Jorge Sharp, said that in August 2017 EPV signed an agreement in which he said they were committed to promoting the construction of the exclusive dock in less than three years.
The communal chief called on the President of the Republic to instruct the Port Company of Valparaíso to advance the construction process.
On the other hand, the deputy Andrés Celis, said that the president publicly announced a while ago his commitment to build an exclusive cruise ship dock in Valparaíso, so he expects the president to keep his word and give the order to EPV that this dock is made.
"I want to believe that President Piñera is going to keep his word and will give the order to the president of EPV to finally make that pier," he said.
Senator Ricardo Lagos Weber, assured that this pier would come to boost the region of Valparaíso and Chile, since a cruise and a passenger terminal will help generate economic activity.
In this first instance, a calendar of activities was developed that will be part of the citizen, advertising and media support campaign to achieve the return of the ocean liners to the city, which requires improving the infrastructure in this area.
In future meetings, the Undersecretary of Tourism will be included, in addition a citizen campaign will be carried out to raise awareness of the need for the exclusive pier.
In turn, it is expected that on Wednesday of next week they will meet again to carry out the exclusive cruise ship dock.
